Welcome to the American Nicaraguan School! It is an honor to be guiding the ANS High School through another dynamic school year serving the international community of Nicaragua.
At ANS we are committed to using the most current and innovative teaching techniques to enhance the learning environment for our teachers and students. The goal of our curricular program is to mirror the learning patterns established in our highly interconnected world. Transitioning away from the traditional assumption that teachers are the givers and keepers of information, ANS strives toward an ideal where teachers collaborate with students in the learning process. This ideal is founded on our core belief that our central role as an institution is to produce open-minded, warm-hearted, and well-informed global citizens prepared to pursue their interests in the world beyond high school.
This commitment to creating a 21st century learning community was greatly enhanced with the opening of our new multimillion-dollar high school facility this past October. The new high school is situated at the top of our campus overlooking Managua and the surrounding lake and volcanoes, and is equipped with 17 new state-of-the-art classrooms. Our new facility has provided us with the platform to launch a 1-to-1 laptop/tablet program, as well as the capacity to integrate the latest technologies into the academic lives of our teachers and students.
Furthermore, I am excited to announce that we are in the final phases of creating the ANS Academy for Global Studies to be launched during the 2012-2013 school year. With the explicit goal of broadening the educational experience of our high school students beyond the traditional classroom setting, the Academy for Global Studies strives to create fully informed, globally minded citizens who actively participate in the world around them. Students who enroll in the Academy during the second semester of their 10th grade year will be required to take a series of traditional and non-traditional academic courses centered on global issues, to gain proficiency in a third language, to partake in an overseas service learning experience, and to complete a digital Global Studies learning project their senior year. Students who meet the Academy’s requirements will receive a Global Studies diploma upon graduation from ANS.
Thank you for taking the time to become more acquainted with the American Nicaraguan School. Should you have any further questions regarding our academic or co-curricular programs, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would enjoy the opportunity to speak with you.
Wishing you and your family all the best,
Brad Cartwright
Interim High School Principal
